I was once ripped off in the process of getting Vehicle’s Road Worthiness certificate when I tried to get it for my brother’s car. I went through hardship in getting the road worthiness certification and I paid so much more than I should.
This is a true life story; not another article from someone who knows nothing about the subject. I don’t want you to fall victim of the ploys in place at the VIO’s offices to cheat unsuspecting vehicle owners.
In this post, I will share information on where to go in order to get the certificate, what to do when you get there and how much it costs to get one. It’s really easy to get.
Where do I get Road Worthiness Paper for my car?
This is the first thing some people do not know about this subject. Some don’t know that, to get road worthiness document for the cars, they need to go to the VIO’s office. Many think, it’s at the Federal Road Safety Corps’ office. Walk into any Vehicle Inspection Office and do it yourself.
What do I need to do?
When you get to their office, go to their reception (if they have one). Rebuff any approach from anyone asking you if you are here to get your car inspected. Don’t
have any such discussion with anyone, unless an officer in Uniform. Just ask for the reception. Discussing with an unauthorized person will get you cheated on. They will ask you to come, take you to the wrong person, probably to another wrong person before getting to the right person.
At the end, they will all be there asking you for money. To make matters worse, the cashier you pay to might insist you pay them. I’ve seen someone experience it. Be careful.
When you get to the right place through the reception, they will ask you for your car type. Provide that information. They will also ask as if it’s private or commercial, let them know the category it belongs.
They will now ask you to pay for the inspection and certification for road worthiness. How much does it cost to get road worthiness certification? I paid only N1,850.00. It was bitter-sweet for me. You know why? I paid as much as N5,000.00 when I did it for my brother earlier.
I don’t want you to fall victim. Don’t ask anyone to do it for you, not even car dealers. DIY. After they check your vehicle and they deem it feet to be road-worthy, you will be issued a certificate.
PARTING HINT: Don’t forget to take along all your Vehicle License including Driver’s License. Any one of they may be called for.
